Jan. 26 is Spirit Day at the Tri-Campuses

President Romo and Ernest Dewinne display their spirit.President Ricardo Romo has proclaimed next Friday, Jan. 26, as Spirit Day across the Tri-Campuses.

He encourages all faculty, staff and students to sport some Roadrunner orange and blue in support of the men's and women's basketball teams Homecoming game. The Roadrunners will face I-35 rival Southwest Texas State Saturday, Jan. 27.

"On Saturday, I'd like to see us 'pack the house' for the games," Romo said.

The women's game, which will also be televised, will begin at 2 p.m. in the Convocation Center and the men's game will follow at 7 p.m.

Tickets for all games are available by calling 458-UTSA. Lower-level reserved seats are $8, while upper-level general admission tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for seniors/juniors.

A special UTSA Homecoming Spirit Shuttle will run from the Downtown Campus to both the women's game and the men's game Jan. 27. The shuttle will depart at 1:30 p.m. from the Frio Street Building Circle and return following the game. The shuttle will depart again at 6 p.m. for the men's game.

Complimentary parking at the BTC lot across from the Downtown Campus will be provided. Please reserve your space on the shuttle by Friday, January 26 at 2 p.m. A sign-up sheet will be on display in the Commons Area at the Downtown Campus.

In addition to sporting orange and blue, Romo encourages all UTSA offices to dress up for the occasion as well. Last year's popular Spirit Day decorating contest has expanded.

Sponsored this year by the UTSA Ambassadors and the Volunteer Organization Involving Community Education and Service (VOICES), the contest is open to all UTSA faculty and staff.

Judges will be looking for those entries with the most orange and blue and those that also portray this year's Homecoming theme, "Established in '69…survivors for all time!"

Offices and individuals are encouraged to have their decorations up in time for Spirit Day, Jan. 26. Judges will visit the Downtown Campus at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26; the Institute of Texan Cultures at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29; and the 1604 Campus at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30.

Winners will be announced during the Golf Cart Parade at noon on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the 1604 Campus. Prizes will be awarded in two categories, office and individual, courtesy of the President's Office.

If you or your office would like to take part in the decorating contest, you must notify Jennifer Redfern at voices@lonestar.utsa.edu by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. In your e-mail, please include your name, the category in which you wish to participate, the office location and a phone number.
