Institute of Texan Cultures Welcomes a New Bison to its Herd

Tres Coyotes, the new bison at the Institute of Texan Cultures. The Institute of Texan Cultures welcomes a new teacher and honored guest to its Native American Exhibit, a 1,500 pound bull bison.

Tres Coyotes, the new bison, is a direct descendant of the historic Goodnight Herd. He was donated to the exhibit area by Hugh Fitzsimons of the Shape Ranch and Texas Bison Association.

Tres Coyotes joins Coco, a smaller female bison who has resided at the institute for more than a decade. The bisons are used on the exhibit floor as interpretive teaching tools to allow children and adults the opportunity to admire, touch and pay tribute to these animals.

Tres Coyotes can be visited at the institute from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. For more information, call 458-2300.
