Nominations Sought for Howe Service Award

Members of the Tri-Campus community are invited to nominate individuals or work teams who have gone beyond the call of duty in their service and commitment to student success for the Richard S. Howe Excellence in Service to Undergraduate Students Award.

Winners of the cash awards could receive up to $2,000. This year's honorees will be recognized at a reception to be held May 1.

Established by a gift to the university by Mrs. Walter W. McAllister Jr., the awards are named in honor of longtime engineering professor Richard Howe and recognize extraordinary faculty or staff contributions to the education and academic experience of UTSA's undergraduate students.

Recipients of the 2000 award were Eyra Perez, associate director of the K-16 Initiative and Honors Program; and members of the College of Business Undergraduate Advising Office.

Selection criteria will be based on information provided in a letter of nomination and on follow-up interviews with those who made and supported the nomination.

Letters of nomination should include the nominee's name or names, if a team award, position(s) and department(s); reasons for the nomination, stated in 100 words or fewer; and the name and phone number of the person submitting the nomination. Click here to download a copy of the nomination form.

Nominees must have demonstrated a vibrant commitment to teaching and/or service to undergraduates; an advocacy for undergraduate education; and participation in activities to promote student access and success.

Only current employees are eligible for nomination. Nominations must be submitted by April 18 to the UTSA Development Office, located in John Peace Library Building Room 4.02.08 at the 1604 Campus. For more information, call 458-4130.
