New Chairman Selected to Lead UT System Board of Regents

Charles Miller has been selected to serve as Chairman of the University of Texas System Board of Regents. Miller replaces Don Evans who resigned in January to serve as a Cabinet member in President George W. Bush’s Administration.

Miller was appointed to a six-year term on the University of Texas System Board of Regents by then Governor George W. Bush in February 1999. He is chairman of the Academic Affairs Committee and is a member of the Special Committee on Telecommunicaitons and Technology Transfer. He is also a Regental representative on the Board for Lease of University Lands.

Miler retired in 1992 as president and chief executive officer of Transameric Asset Management Group, Inc. He was instrumental in developing the company’s worldwide investment management activities and in formulating the firm’s development under its earlier name, Criterion Group, which he founded. Under his direction, the total management assets of the orgranization grew to more than $13 billion.

As an expert in the area of monetary affairs, Miller has been directly responsible for the management of large institutional and individual portfolios.

Miller earned a degree in Mathematics in 1959 from the University of Texas at Austin.
