UTSA College of Business Advisory Council Honors Outstanding Faculty
Four faculty members were honored at the annual UTSA College of Business Advisory Council Faculty Awards Ceremony in May. Cheryl Fulkerson, associate professor of accounting, received the E. Lou Curry Teaching Excellence Award, the premiere teaching award in the college. She is characterized by her students as being "strict, but very fair" and has consistently received high teaching evaluations. In addition to her regular duties, Fulkerson went back to class herself to prepare for a new course in accounting information systems.
The recipient of this year's Col. Jean Migliorino and Lt. Col. Philip Piccione Endowed Faculty Award for Research Excellence has produced a prolific amount of research during his two years at UTSA. Mark Leung, assistant professor of management, has had nine papers accepted in refereed journals since 1998. Leung's field of research is in financial forecasting. He has been published in such prestigious journals as the International Journal of Forecasting and Decision Sciences.
Elaine Sanders is the recipient of the Combined Teaching, Research and Service Award. Sanders, associate professor of accounting, epitomizes the well-rounded faculty member. She has an established stream of published and ongoing research and has appeared in the top behavioral journals. During her seven-year tenure in the college, Sanders has taught seven different courses in almost seven different manners. Her service to the college has included advising UTSA's Institute of Management Accountants student chapter and participating both locally and nationally with the Institute of Management Accountants.
The Patrick J. Clynes Excellence in Service Award was presented to Diane Walz. Walz, an associate professor of information systems, actively participates in many committees at the university, college and division level. Throughout her 13 years at UTSA she has performed a lifetime of service. Currently, she is secretary for the Graduate Council, chair of the College Faculty Review and Advisory Committee and chair of the Division Search Committee for Information Systems Faculty Members.
The Advisory Council Awards were established in 1988 by the college's Business Advisory Council to reward excellence in teaching, research and service. Nominations are made through each division by faculty advisory committees. A selection committee, made up of faculty, administrators and advisory council members, reviews nominations and makes final selections.
UTSA's College of Business is accredited by AACSB International, The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. It is one of the 40 largest business schools in the nation with more than 4,200 enrolled students and 34 different graduate and undergraduate business programs.
