Chisholm Hall Students Cope with Relocation During Finals Week

Will I be allowed to go back into Chisholm Hall after this process?

NO, students will not be allowed to enter Chisholm Hall after this process.


When does the cleaning process begin?

UTSA is in the process of negotiating the final details of a contract with an environmental cleaning company. The company will start cleaning students’ belongings today-Thursday, May 10, 2001.


When will I be able to pick up my cleaned belongings?
We will be developing a priority system for cleaning and will post that information tomorrow, so that each student will have an estimated idea about when belongings will be cleaned and available for pick up.


What if I am not available to pick up my cleaned belongings because I have left the city, state or country?

Those students unable to pick up their belongings may have them sent to a designated destination. UTSA will pay for shipping costs.


Chisholm Hall Evacuation Steps


STEP 1-When you arrive at Chisholm Hall, report to the Activity Center. You and your roommate will be assigned an escort and accompanied to your room. Both you and your roommate MUST be present in order to gain access to your room. You will be allowed 15-minutes in your room.


STEP 2- In your room, you must sort your dry-cleanable clothing and place it in a special bag to be left in your room on the bed. The bag should be tagged with your full name and room number.
When you have completed this task you have the opportunity to tag other items in your room (TVs, stereos, computers, VCRs, etc.). NO ITEMS CAN LEAVE THE ROOM. You have ONLY 15- minutes to complete these tasks.


STEP 3- At the end of the 15-minute period you will be escorted out of your room to the Activity Center. It is important to adhere to the timeline even if you are not finished labeling.


STEP 4- When you arrive at the Activity Center you will be asked to return your Chisholm Hall room key and complete a Forwarding Address Mail Card.


STEP 5-You have successfully completed the process, please exit Chisholm Hall. Thank you for your cooperation.
What about materials other than clothing?
Materials other than clothing will be moved through a series of "dirty" and then "clean rooms" during the cleaning process, and then stored in a secure area by room number.
What about large items other than clothing?
Large items computers, stereos, stuffed animals, leather items, and the like will be vacuumed with a special air filter process and stored in a secure area by room number.
What about all other clothing in general?
All clothing other than leather items that do not need to be dry-cleaned will be either washed in hot water or dry-cleaned.

Thank you for agreeing to assist the Chisholm Hall Residents at this crucial time during their evacuation. Because of your professional efforts we hope to conduct this phase of our evacuation with ease. Please follow this guide to the best of your ability. If you have ANY questions, please contact one of the Evacuation Team Leaders.

Chisholm Hall Staff Step–By-Step Evacuation Guidelines


STEP 1- You will be asked to escort these students to their rooms.
To help students ensure that their clothing is handled appropriately; we will be giving students, in pairs if they have a roommate, permission to enter their room for a 15-minute period.


STEP 2- You must monitor the time in the room (15 minutes). Students should tag their bags with full name and room number. Students should tag other items (TVs, stereos, computers,VCRs, etc.).
No items may be removed from the room.
In their room students must sort their dry-cleanable clothing and place it in a special bag to be left in the room. No items may be taken from the room. Students will also have the opportunity to sort and tag other items in their rooms, but only within the 15-minute timeframe.


STEP 3- You escort the student out of their room to the Activity Center.
At the end of the 15-minute time period escort the students down to the Activity Center. Please escort the student out of the room even if they have not fully completed the task the 15-minute time limit is important.


STEP 4- Direct students to the appropriate table for key return and mail sign up.
At the Activity Center the students will be asked to return their Chisholm room key and complete a Forwarding Address Mail Card.


STEP 5-Report back to the Team Leader and receive your next group assignment. Repeat Steps.
