San Antonio Firm to Clean Personal Belongings of Chisholm Hall Evacuees

Officials at the University of Texas at San Antonio have negotiated a contract with Gillits Cleaning, Inc., to clean clothing and personal effects belonging to students evacuated from the Chisholm Residence Hall on the university's 1604 Campus. Efforts to help students forced out of the residence hall are being coordinated through the Chisholm Hall Evacuation Team, based in the University Center.

"I cannot say enough to thank the many members of the university community -- students, faculty and staff -- who have helped during this crisis," said Rosalie Ambrosino, vice president for student affairs. "This has been a difficult situation, but the work of hundreds of individuals has made it easier to help students impacted by the evacuation."

The building was evacuated last Thursday after environmental inspectors detected potentially hazardous concentrations of certain molds. Approximately 300 residents of the building have been living in local hotels while they complete their finals.

Beginning Friday, Gillits will begin removing and securing personal effects for cleaning. Working two eight hour shifts per day, workers will sanitize personal effects and make them available for immediate return to students. Residents of Chisholm Hall can pick up their items at the university or have their effects shipped to their home addresses.
