University Police Participate in National Police Week Ceremonies
It's National Police Week and all across the country and several events have been taking place in communities to remember fallen officers who have given their lives in the line of duty. UTSA University Police Chief George Powers and Captain Dan Pena attended the ceremony.
Powers says a UTSA Honor Guard was also on hand for the emotional ceremony to remember San Antonio's fallen officers. The week has been especially painful in San Antonio where two officers were killed on the job in the last six months. Officers Hector Garza and Rocky Riojas were both shot and killed in separate incidents trying to apprehend a suspect.
Their names were remembered in a special ceremony that took place Friday morning in Austin as National Police Week drew to a close. Officers from all over the state gather annually in Austin to pay their respects to their fellow officers who have died doing their job.
