UTSA Faculty Member Honored with Distinguished Achievement Award for Teaching Excellence
Vincent DiMartino, lecturer in the division of economics and finance, joined the faculty in 1987, not too many years after completing his MBA at UTSA. His teaching ranges from an undergraduate economics core curriculum course to managerial economics for MBA students.
He is known for setting high expectations, both for his students and for himself. Even in courses with large enrollments, he gives primarily essay exams or problems, which he personally grades.
He also assigns challenging term projects or term papers in his upper division and graduate level courses, while supervising independent study courses and internships.
He holds study review sessions and regularly teaches a seven-hour math review course for students in his undergraduate and graduate managerial economics course at the beginning of each semester to help set them up for success in the course.
DiMartino's dedication to students both inside and outside the classroom is extraordinary. He currently is engaged in efforts to enhance student recruitment and has spearheaded a move to increase the recruitment of international students this year. He also assists in obtaining student internships and serves as a mentor for scholarship students.
