"Texan Spirit" Reflected in 2001 Texas Folklife Festival Poster
"A
Texan Spirit," the commemorative poster for the 2001 Texas Folklife Festival,
symbolizes the strength and character of a diverse Lone Star State. "My
inspiration for this year's 30th anniversary poster came from what my image
of the folklife festival has become--the best of Texas with everything being
larger than life," said artist Tina Blumenthal.
"The longhorns represent the livelihood of so many Texans of the past and present. The boots represent the hardworking settler from every nation. The horse represents the means of communication, work, and travel for an era of Texas history. The fiddler represents the entertainment provided by diverse ethnic groups. The rope and tooled leather saddle represent the unique crafts that are demonstrated. Finally, the cowboy represents the spirit and adventure of the festival."
Blumenthal, owner and designer of Tina Blumenthal Designs, is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design. Past clients have included Ralph Lauren, Christus Santa Rosa Children's Hospital, Kinney Shoes, Urban Homestead, General Electric, and many others. Blumenthal is also the designer of the 2001 Texas Folklife Festival promotional materials.
