Science and Engineering Grants Competition Begins in May

Program announcements containing application guidelines for the 2001 ARP/ATP Grants Competition will be available in May at http:www.ARPATP.com. All UTSA faculty members and research professionals in the sciences, engineering and the behavioral sciences are invited to participate.

The Advanced Research Program (ARP) and Advanced Technology Program (ATP) are competitive, peer reviewed grant programs designed to fund projects of faculty at Texas higher education institutions. Both programs were created by the Texas Legislature in 1987 and are administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. All tenured and tenure-track faculty and permanent research professionals may apply.

Most investigators who participated in the 1999 competition are already registered and may use their previous OSP username and password on the new ARP/ATP on-line system. All investigators who plan to participate in the 2001 competition must be registered with the ARP/ATP online system before noon, May 29. The system is open now and investigators may register at any time.

Investigators who registered in 1999 simply need to log on to verify and update their contact information. These individuals may go to http:/www.ARPATP.com, click the gold "On-line" button at the top of the page, and log on using their regular system username and password. When the information has been updated click the "Update Information" button at the bottom of the page. Those who have lost or forgotten their username and password may use the automated help feature on the log on page.

Investigators new to the system will register by going to http://www.ARPATP.com and clicking the gold "On-line" button at the top of the page. Next they will click the "Register with the System" link on the left side of the page and complete the registration form by supplying their contract information.

For more information about the ARP or ATP programs, the guidelines or UTSA proposal routing procedures, call Research Development at 458-4340.

Beginning May 15, Research Development will begin phasing out the "Green Sheet" Funding Alert System it has used to notify faculty and staff of current federal and non-federal funding opportunities. The new system-InfoEd Internatiional-is faster, provides more information, is more up-to-date and offers other services to facilitate grant proposal and project development.

Training sessions in the use of the new InfoEd International System will be offered this summer through TxClass. Training for divisions or groups can be arranged by calling Research Development at 458-4340.
