UTSA Satellite Space Exhibits Works from Two Artists

The University of Texas at San Antonio’s Satellite Space will be exhibiting the works of artists Monika Malewska and Walter Brown from May 18-June 3.

Entitled, "Haut-Gout," the exhibit comprises paintings, photographs and three dimensional objects by the two artists. Malewska’s paintings and photographs appropriate traditional elements from the still-life genre and use rich, vibrant colors to transform unconventional subjects into exotic arrangements. Her work playfully explores the boundaries of decadence, repulsion, and desire by juxtaposing aesthetically seductive materials with grotesque and macabre objects.

Brown transforms the organic nature of clay into what appears to be an artificial material. The surface and volume of the forms look synthetic and create a tension between the organic and fabricated quality of the forms.

An opening reception is planned from 6-9 p.m Friday, June 1 at the UTSA Satellite Space, 115 Blue Star, Blue Star Art Complex, South Alamo and Probandt streets. Gallery hours are noon-6 p.m. Friday through Sunday or by appointment.

Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, call Steve Arredondo at (210) 212-7146.
