UTSA Pitcher Jared Howton Named League Pitcher of the Year
The University of Texas at San Antonio's Jared Howton has been named Pitcher of the Year for the Southland Conference.. A senior from San Antonio Judson High School, Howton is tied for league leadership with eight victories, six of which came against Southland opponents, against two losses. His 3.26 earned run average ranks sixth in the Conference while he is tops with seven complete games. In Southland action, Howton has the second-best ERA at 2.37 and each of his seven complete games came versus Conference foes.
UTSA senior Matt McIntyre, serving as Howton's battery mate has been given
the nod as the Southland's top catcher. McIntyre, a Brenham, Texas, product,
is batting .325 with 30 runs batted in and has a league-leading 19 hit-by-pitches.
