With Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama in the United States, members of the Tri-Campus Community may be interested to learn of a special exhibit planned this summer at the Institute of Texan Cultures.
In its only Texas showing, "The Mystical Arts of Tibet" exhibit will be on display July 3-Sept. 3. The showing comprises more than 100 ancient, sacred and contemporary objects and works of art. Some are the personal, sacred items of the Dalai Lama. Artifacts from Tibet's largest monastery, Drepung Loseling, and contemporary pieces crafted by exiled Tibetans living in India and Nepal, are also included.
Events planned during the exhibit include the construction by Buddhist monks of a sand-painted mandala and a performance of "Sacred Music, Sacred Dance for World Healing."
UTSA faculty, staff and students with a current university ID card will be admitted free to the exhibit. Tickets for family members and the general public will be sold at the ITC Store beginning during the Texas Folklife Festival June 7-10. Adult tickets will be discounted when purchased at the festival.
The exhibit is being presented with financial support from The Ewing Halsell
Foundation. The Mystical Arts of Tibet tour is sponsored by Richard Gere Productions,
Inc. and Drepung Loseling Institute, North American seat of Drepung Loseling
Monastery.
