Assistant Basketball Coach Accepts Position at Northern Oklahoma College

Brett Weiberg, who served this past season as assistant coach at the University of Texas at San Antonio, has resigned to become an assistant coach at Northern Oklahoma College (NOC). Weiberg, 26, will be returning to a school where he played for two seasons and will be assisting his father, Mick, who is the head coach at NOC.

"It's a great opportunity for me and my family and I'm happy to be returning to Northern Oklahoma to continue my coaching career," said Weiberg, a native of Tonkawa, Okla., where NOC is located. "I enjoyed the past year working for Coach Carter here at UTSA and will take a lot of great memories with me."

A former all-conference guard at Sam Houston State University, Weiberg came to UTSA from the assistant coaching position at Wayland Baptist University, where he coached in 1999-2000. Prior to his time at Wayland, Weiberg also served as assistant coach at Blinn College in 1998-99, and as a student assistant at Sam Houston State.

Weiberg earned first team all-state and all-district honors as a senior at Tonkawa High School. His first two years of college were spent at NOC, where he earned first team all-region and all-conference honors from 1993-95.

A 1998 graduate of Sam Houston State with a bachelor's degree, Weiberg played for the Bearkats from 1995-97. He earned academic all-Southland Conference honors in 1996-97 while starting every game for Sam Houston State and leading the Bearkats in minutes played.

"Brett was a great addition to our staff this past season and will be missed by everyone here in San Antonio," said UTSA head coach Tim Carter. "I'm happy for him and his family and wish them the best of luck in Oklahoma
