Employees can turn in United Way pledges until Dec. 9

(Nov. 20, 2001)--Any UTSA employeees who have not turned in their United Way pledges still have the opportunity to do so until Dec. 9. Those who decided not to give still need to turn in their packets with the books inside. To ensure privacy only United Way representatives are authorized to open pledge envelopes.

Holiday madrigal dinner tickets are available now

(Nov. 20, 2001)--The UTSA music department's annual Holiday Madrigal Dinner will serve up a tale of love and politics between France's Louis XIII, his wife Queen Anne and the king's chief minister, Cardinal Richelieu with this year's theme "A Night in the French Court."

Performances with seated dinner will be at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7, 8, 14 and 15 in the Multidisciplinary Studies Building Kiva on the 1604 Campus. Tickets are available in advance at $40 each for regular seating and $50 for preferred seating, with each table seating six. MasterCard and Visa are accepted. For tickets, call the Department of Music at (210) 458-4355. As is customary for this event, tickets are going fast.

Bambi Cardenas to speak Nov. 27 on powerful lessons

(Nov. 21, 2001)--Blandina "Bambi" Cardenas, dean of the College of Education, will speak on "Powerful Lessons from Tia Ernestina's Kitchen Table: How Bambi Learned to Walk Through the Thicket and Remain Whole" at noon Tuesday, Nov. 27 in the University Center Mesquite Room on the 1604 Campus.

The talk is part of the Last Lecture Series sponsored by the United Methodist Student Movement. Speakers in the series base their lectures on the theme "If this were the last lecture you ever gave, what would your message be?"

The lecture is free and open to the public. Free beverages will be provided, but participants are invited to bring a sack lunch. For more information call Liz at 458-6105.

For a limited time only: no heat, no hot water, no gas, no road

(Nov. 21, 2001)--For any members of the Tri-Campus community who have plans to be on the 1604 Campus this Friday, Nov. 23, please be advised that there will be no heat or hot water in most buildings that day. Facilities services will shut down the steam system at noon Friday to repair a major steam leak. Buildings impacted will be: Arts, Arts addition, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, John Peace Library, Multidisciplinary Studies and Science. Repairs should be completed by 1 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24.

Also, preliminary work on re-routing the natural gas line in the Engineering Building service drive also got under way this week, and some gas outages are expected next week.

In additional news, the 1604 Campus bypass road will be closed from about 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Dec. 1 due to construction. Although every effort will be made to keep at least one lane open, motorists are asked to consider alternate routes.

Deadline nears for Alumni Association cruise

(Nov. 14, 2001)--Alumni will set sail from Galveston on May 20, 2002 on a Carnival cruise to the western Caribbean visiting such locations as Cozumel and Calica/Cancun. The deadline for the $200 deposit is December 1, 2001, so it's not too late to get onboard! For more information, go to the Alumni Association Web site.

Dan Kaderli's "PoePourri." 7:30 p.m. Nov. 26 and Nov. 28, 1604 Campus, Business Building Auditorium. Admission: $3 at the door. All proceeds will benefit the UTSA Women's Athletic Scholarship Fund and the Golden Key Honor Society, sponsor of the show. Kaderli does the one-man show in the persona of Edgar Alan Poe.
