Blandina Cardenas to be honored at Dec. 8 scholarship fund-raiser
(Nov. 30, 2001)--Blandina "Bambi" Cardenas, UTSA dean of
the College of Education and Human Development, will be recognized for her
service in higher education at a breakfast fund-raiser from 9-11 a.m., Saturday,
Dec. 8 at Mario's Restaurant, 4841 Fredericksburg Rd. The event, "A Celebration
for Bambi: A Tribute by Her Community," will benefit the Blandina Cardenas
Scholarship Fund at UTSA.
The event will be sponsored by a number of area and national groups and organizations,
including: Avance, Alamo Area Student Intervention Alliance, Bilingual Education
Students Organization, Edgewood Independent School District, Hispanas Unidas,
Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities, IMAGE de San Antonio, Intercultural
Development Research Association, La Raza Faculty and Administrators Association,
League of United Latin American Citizens, MANA de San Antonio, Mexican American
Business and Professional Women's Club of San Antonio, Mexican American Legal
Defense Educational Fund, Mission City Business and Professional Women's Club
of San Antonio, Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio Women's Hall
of Fame and Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education.
Tickets for the event are $25. Checks should be payable to MANA de San Antonio
