Nine new faculty join UTSA in education and public policy colleges
(Nov. 7, 2001)--Five new tenure-track faculty joined UTSA this fall in the College of Education and Human Development and four new faculty joined the College of Public Policy.
In the College of Education and Human Development, new faculty are Page
Smith, assistant professor in educational leadership and policy studies;
Michael Karcher, assistant professor in counseling (arriving fall 2002);
Albert Valadez, also an assistant professor in the counseling department;
Marie Antonietta "Keta" Miranda, assistant professor in Mexican
American Studies; and Elizabeth de la Portilla, instructor with a joint
appointment in Mexican American Studies and Anthropology.
The College of Education and Human Development offers undergraduate degrees
in English as a second language, health, interdisciplinary studies, kinesiology
and Mexican American studies. Also available are masters degree programs
in counseling, bicultural-bilingual studies, bilingual education and education,
as well as doctoral programs in culture, literacy and language and one in
educational leadership.

New tenure-track faculty in the College of Public Policy are, in the criminal
justice department, Jeffery Cancino, instructor; Catrin Smith,
assistant professor (arriving in January 2002); and Olivia Yu, assistant
professor; and in the public administration department, Christopher Reddick,
assistant professor.
The UTSA College of Public Policy, formerly the College of Urban and Professional
Programs, offers master's-level degree programs in public administration and
justice policy plus a baccalaureate in criminal justice.
