Pioneering organic food raiser to speak Nov. 28 at UTSA

(Nov. 14, 2001)--Richard Sechrist, a pioneering Texas organic food raiser and environmentalist, will speak at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday Nov. 28 in the Humanities and Social Science Building Room 2.01.08 on the UTSA 1604 Campus.

His talk, "Fast Food Nation: Problems and Solutions in American Agriculture," will address the environmental and social problems created by corporate food production. Sechrist will also discuss his efforts to establish a national network for organically-produced beef and poultry.

Sechrist, a family rancher near Fredericksburg, is the first Texas rancher to produce certified organic beef, and is a nationally-known advocate for sustainable ranching and agricultural practices.

The presentation is part of the course History 4223, American Environmental History, but is also free and open to the public.

For more information, contact Benjamin Johnson, assistant professor of history, at 458-5703.
