UTSA student organization organizes Thanksgiving fund-raiser
(Nov. 2, 2001)--Members of the UTSA Chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) put their special event planning skills to work to help raise money for this year's Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner by organizing a special night of fun, food and friends. The social takes place from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at the Tequila Republic Restaurant & Cantina at 8647 Wurzbach.
A portion of the proceeds collected at the door will be donated to the annual Thanksgiving dinner. The cost is $7 for individuals 21 and $15 for minors. The event is open to the public.
UTSA's PRSSA chapter has received national recognition for excellence in community service and chapter development. Helping to provide warm, hearty Thanksgiving dinners to the hungry is top on PRSSA's community service list this holiday season.
"In the spirit of giving, the social organizers felt the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner was an excellent way to contribute to the community," PRSSA President Luke Hudek said. "Knowing that our efforts helped fill a hungry person's stomach fills our hearts with happiness."
As a pre-professional organization, UTSA PRSSA takes pride in participating in successful community service campaigns to help those in need and to help its members and other UTSA public relations students entering the workforce to acquire the skills needed to survive and stand above the rest.
The hands-on experience students receive while planning and implementing special event campaigns is necessary to compete in the PR job market and provides students' training in strategic marketing and promotions, graphic design, media relations, business communications and writing.
For individuals or groups interested in volunteering for the Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner, call the volunteer hotline at (210) 601-GIFT (4483) starting Friday, November 2.
