Brighton School and Community Health Charities were two of seven agencies
with representatives
on campus at a United Way Agency Fair held last month. Brighton School helps
kids who have
early childhood developmental problems, while Community Health Charities donates
to over 60
different programs in Texas.
Employees can turn in pledges until the end of the month
(Nov. 20, 2001)--If UTSA employeees did not have a chance to turn in there pledge contributions to the United Way by Nov. 9, they still have the opportunity to do so by the end of the month. Those who decide not to give still need to turn in their packets with the books inside. To ensure privacy only United Way representatives are authorized to open pledge envelopes.
Last month, several United Way funded agency representatives participated in an agency fair on the 1604 Campus in order to give employees the opportunity to see who benefits from United Way local donations. Among those in attendance were CHIP, Any Baby Can of San Antonio, American Heart Association, Brighton School, Inc., Community Health Charities, Alzheimer's Association, Prevent Blindness of Texas and National Alliance for the Mentally Ill.
Last year UTSA received two state awards for its high level of United Way participation. UTSA recorded the largest per capita giving in the state and had the largest increase in numbers of donations among all components of the UT System. The percent of UTSA enployees participating in United Way increased from 36 to 46 percent during last year's campaign.
Additionally, United Way officals say that 126 UTSA employees were directly assisted by one of the 98 agencies supported by United Way.
