"Apparation & Explendora with Round Window," gouache on paper by Daniel Graves Clayton, 1995, and
"Glade 2001," blue plexiglass, cast wax and water by Meg Langhorne.
Meditative paintings and reflective sculpture exhibited at Satellite Space
(Oct. 12, 2001)--Gouache paintings by Daniel Graves Clayton and a
sculpture by Meg Langhorne are on exhibit at the UTSA Satellite Space
at the Blue Star Arts Complex through Oct. 28.
Clayton's Yantra Paintings are composed around a circular, mandala image and
layered with pattern. He exploits the decorative potential of his images and
medium and engages the symbolic, psychological and meditative aspects of the
mandala in both his process and the resulting paintings. He is represented
by the D. Berman Gallery in Austin and has exhibited his work frequently in
Austin, Houston and Mexico.
San Antonio artist Meg Langhorne will present the newest sculpture in her
Glade series consisting of a translucent blue plexiglas container in which
stylized wax "flowers" float on a pool of water. The glowing blue
plexiglas, reflective water and gently bobbing flowers suggest both nature
and artifice. Langhorne is represented by the Finesilver Gallery, San Antonio,
which has recently featured two other works in this series. Her work has also
been recently seen at Mulcahy Modern in Dallas.
Gallery hours are noon-6 p.m., Fri.-Sun. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Connie Lowe at (210) 458-4352.
