Henry Cisneros to speak Oct. 16 at Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series
(October 15, 2001)--Henry Cisneros, chairman and chief executive officer
of American CityVista, will present the keynote address during the Frost Bank
Distinguished Lecture Series at 11 a.m. Oct. 16 in the Business Building Auditorium
Room 2.01.02. The event is sponsored by the UTSA College of Business and is
free and open to the public.
San Antonios native son Henry Cisneros has enjoyed a distinguished career
as both politician and businessman. Returning to his roots, he founded and
is now chairman and chief executive officer of American CityVista, a community-building
venture that he formed with KB Home in August 2000. Before joining American
CityVista, Cisneros was president and chief operating officer of Univision
Communications in Los Angeles, the Spanish-language broadcaster.
From 1993 to 1997, Cisneros served as the Secretary of the U.S. Department
of Housing and Urban Development. As a member of President Clintons
Cabinet, Cisneros is credited with initiating a major revitalization of many
of the nations public housing developments. Prior to joining the Cabinet,
he was chairman of Cisneros Asset Management Company, a fixed-income money
management firm operating nationally.
Cisneros political career began as a member of San Antonios city
council. In 1981 he was elected mayor of San Antonio, becoming the first Hispanic
mayor of a major U.S. city. During his four terms in office, Cisneros helped
rebuild the citys economic base, created jobs and was elected president
of the National League of Cities in 1985.
Cisneros currently serves as chairman of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber
of Commerce and as a board member of KB Home, Countrywide Mortgage, The Enterprise
Foundation and the New America Alliance. His leadership launched the Entrepreneurial
Growth Program sponsored jointly by the colleges Center for Professional
Excellence, UTSAs Institute for Economic Development and the San Antonio
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He holds a bachelors and a masters
degree in urban and regional planning from Texas A&M University, a masters
degree in public administration from Harvard and a doctorate in public administration
from George Washington University.
The Frost Bank Distinguished Lecture Series brings prominent business and
community leaders to UTSA to share their knowledge and experiences with students
and others in the university and business community. The lecture series, which
began in 1988, presents an opportunity to broaden our understanding of the
business world and the individuals who lead it.
