UTSA and technology organization host luncheon to introduce deans, discuss growth
(Oct. 24, 2001)--The University of Texas at San Antonio and the San Antonio Technology Accelerator Initiative (SATAI) will host a noon luncheon Friday, Nov. 9 at the Omni Hotel at IH-10 and Huebner to introduce two of the newest UTSA deans to the local community. Zorica Pantic-Tanner became dean of the College of Engineering last August, while William Scouten was named dean of the College of Sciences in Sept. 2000.
Mayor Ed Garza, the keynote speaker, will discuss the role technology will play in San Antonio's new economy. Garza will discuss why the City of San Antonio has agreed to invest $1 million in UTSA's Biotech Initiative and encourage others' support for UTSA. Garza will also discuss local work force issues and how UTSA can contribute to economic development for the city and the region by developing a center of excellence.
UTSA President Ricardo Romo will serve as master of ceremonies and will discuss his vision for UTSA, laying the foundation to become a top-tier research university.
Other guests scheduled to attend include UT Regent Cyndi Taylor Krier, Bexar County Judge and SATAI Co-chair Nelson Wolff and CEO of OnBoard Software and SATAI Co-chair David Spencer.
Individual tickets can be purchased for $30 or tables for groups of 10 can be reserved for $350. Tickets are nonrefundable, and proceeds will go toward scholarships. For more information, call (210) 458-4129.
