International trade center names new director

(Oct. 30, 2001)--Cliff Paredes has been named director of the South-West Texas Border International Trade Center (ITC), part of the University of Texas at San Antonio Institute for Economic Development (IED). The center provides international trade consulting services, market research and export-readiness training programs for small and medium-sized companies looking to make the move into the global marketplace.

“Having Cliff Paredes come on board signals the ITC’s continued commitment to improve and expand its role as a key partner in the international trade community of South Texas.,” said IED Director Robert McKinley. Last year, the ITC provided assistance that resulted in over $40 million in export sales for companies in the79 counties comprising the South-West Texas Border Region.

Prior to becoming director, Paredes was a senior international trade specialist for the ITC. In the position, he assisted businesses in exporting their products to over 70 countries. He has also worked for the U.S. Department of Commerce San Antonio Export Assistance Center and the Casa San Antonio-Mexico City office.

A native of San Antonio, Paredes earned a bachelor of arts in finance from UTSA and has completed professional studies at the Universidad Autonoma de Mexico in both Mexico City and San Antonio. The ITC is part of the nationwide Small Business Development Center network and is financed jointly by the U.S. Small Business Administration and UTSA.
