UTSA
athletic department gives free tickets to S.A. police and fire departments
(Oct. 4, 2001)--To honor the service of the San Antonio police force and firefighters,
the UTSA athletic department announced Tuesday that throughout the 2001-2002
season, members of both departments will receive free tickets to Roadrunner
sporting events. In addition to the free tickets, their family members will
be admitted to games for $1 per person."This is our chance to show our appreciation to our police and fire fighters for all they do for San Antonio," said Lynn Hickey, director of athletics at UTSA. "It's the least we can do to show our appreciation. If they can get away from their jobs and enjoy a UTSA game, then we all profit from their involvement."
UTSA also plans to honor both organizations when the Roadrunner men's basketball team meets Illinois State on Dec. 1 at the UTSA Convocation Center. Members and families of the police and fire departments will be admitted free for the 2 p.m. game with the Redbirds.
"We are thankful to UTSA for the kind offer to attend their sporting events and the hospitality they have shown," said Al A. Philippus, San Antonio's chief of police. "Hopefully, many of our officers will take advantage of the opportunity and enjoy Roadrunner games this season."
