(Sept. 26, 2001)--The UTSA Department of Music hosts musicians John Salmon
and Christopher and Dan Brubeck in concert with the UTSA Orchestra
at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, in the UTSA Recital Hall. Salmon, the Brubeck
brothers and the UTSA Orchestra will present a concert featuring "Elementals,"
a work for jazz quartet and orchestra composed by legendary jazz musician,
Dave Brubeck.
Salmon, a classical and jazz artist, is regarded as an authority on Brubecks
music, having edited two of his piano volumes. Brubeck dedicated two original
compositions to Salmon.
Salmon will be joined in concert by Chistopher and Dan Brubeck, sons of the
famous jazz pianist/composer. Chris is a composer, lyricist, arranger and
performer who plays four instruments. Dan is a percussionist who has toured
internationally for over two decades as the leader of his own group, The Dolphins,
and as a featured soloist with many of the world's top jazz artists.
UTSA's own Morgan King, a saxophonist, will join Salmon and the two
Brubecks in the concert. The jazz group will also perform several special
arrangements of Dave Brubeck's greatest hits. The UTSA Orchestra, under the
direction of Eugene Dowdy, will begin the evening's program with Beethoven's
"Symphony No. 1 in C Major."
The eclectic combination of musical genres will be presented free of charge
and open to the public. For more information, call (210) 458-4550.
