Chess Club hosts 'simultaneous chess' exhibition Sept. 18

(Sept. 17, 2001)--The UTSA Chess Club will host a simultaneous exhibition featuring National Master Alex Weinberg from 12 p.m.-3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, at the University Center 1st floor Galleria on the 1604 Campus.

A simultaneous exhibition is a chess game in which one player (in this case, Weinberg) plays against everyone who comes to the event. Tables and chairs are set in a circular arrangement and the player moves from one opponent to the next. When he goes to an opponent, that person makes their move, followed by Weinberg.

After Weinberg has completed his move, he moves on to the next player. The player he has just left has until he gets back to them to decide on their next move.

"There is a lot for spectators to watch," said Keri Hedman, Chess Club president. "They can mentally play along as well. The players will be playing against someone very good, but simply for the fun, knowledge and enjoyment of chess."

Participants are asked to bring their own boards. The event is free and open to the public. For more information contact Keri Hedman by e-mail or go to the Chess Club Web site.
