Chisholm Hall Opens Doors to UTSA Students for New Academic Year
(Aug. 23, 2001)--Following more than $1 million in remediation projects, Century Campus Housing Management of Houston has opened the doors of Chisholm Hall to UTSA students for the 2001-2002 academic year. Students moved out of the facility last May following the detection of traces of molds that may pose health concerns to residents.
UTSA President Ricardo Romo was at the residence hall to greet incoming students and to lend a hand during the move-in process. Several local media representatives were at the site to talk with Romo, student residents and Century Campus Housing representatives.
Century Campus Housing manages all residence facilities at UTSA. Century's upgrades to Chisholm include the replacement of carpet with tile in many residents' rooms, the installation of electric ventilation systems to remove moist air from the building, the replacement of 246 bathroom lavatories and modifications to the building's heating and air-conditioning system.
A record number of UTSA students applied this year to live in Chisholm, which can accommodate up to 500 students. Nearly 2,200 students live on campus at UTSA, either in Chisholm or the University Oaks apartment complex on the south side of the campus.
