Colleges Make Transition from Division to Departmental Structure

(Aug. 23, 2001)--One year after UTSA reorganized into six colleges, the university's second major transition from academic divisions to departments is now complete. This phase of the restructuring created 32 discipline-based departments and the School of Architecture.

One division in the College of Education and Human Development will retain its divisional designation, bilingual bicultural studies, which has an interdepartmental mission.

"It is gratifying for those within the university community who worked so diligently on the reorganization to see this second major piece falling into place," said Guy Bailey, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

"The transition to departments will take a bit of adjustment for all of us, but let's keep in mind our ultimate goal of elevating the university to the next level of excellence."
