UTSA Hires New Assistant Softball Coach
(Aug. 31, 2001)--University of Texas at San Antonio head softball coach Corrie Hill announced that Casey Dickson, formerly the interim head coach at Nicholls State University, has joined the Roadrunners staff as an assistant coach. Dickson was an assistant coach during the Lady Colonels' 21-34 record last season."We are fortunate to have someone of Casey's caliber join our program," said Hill. "She was an outstanding player during her days at Oklahoma and she has great knowledge of the conference after spending last year at Nicholls State. Her knowledge, both on the field and in the dugout, will be a tremendous asset to our program."
A four-year softball letterwinner during her days as a first baseman at Oklahoma, Dickson set single-season school records for home runs (17) and RBI's (61) her senior season in 1997. She ended her four-year stay as a player in Norman as one of the school's most prolific offensive players, sitting atop career lists for RBI's (166), home runs (27), total bases (337) and walks (118). She also was the first Oklahoma player to receive All-Midwest Region honors three years (1995-97).
A first team All Big Eight Conference selection following her sophomore season of 1995, Dickson was a second team All-Big 12 performer her junior year while being named to first team All-Big 12 her senior season. Following her playing career, Dickson was a first round draft choice in the Women's Professional Softball League as she was selected by Tampa Bay.
Dickson will be the Roadrunners' recruiting coordinator and will have on-field practice and game responsibilities.
