Commencement
Memories: Future parole officer ready for life beyond
(Dec. 13, 2001)--UTSA commencement candidate Eduardo Fernandez III
says it was his respect for the law and a desire to work in the criminal justice
system that led him to major in the discipline.
The Eagle Pass native began his higher education at Southwest Texas Junior
College in Uvalde, where he enrolled in a 2+2 program that prepared him to
transfer to UTSA.
"I knew it would be a challenge for me to come from a junior college
to a university, but I also knew UTSA had a program that would really benefit
me and prepare me well for my career," Fernandez says.
He credits the support of family, friends, his faith and faculty mentors
with helping him to succeed.
"Eddy has been outstanding in his attitudes toward school and study,"
says criminal justice faculty member Olivia Yu. "He has never
missed a single class and takes advantage of my office hours and e-mail communication
to stay ahead. He has made great progress, and I wish all students were as
serious about school."
Fernandez adds, "I am looking forward to graduating and facing life in
the world beyond college." He plans to become a probation or parole officer.
