Head back from holiday for two Roadrunner games
(Dec. 19, 2001)--There is still time to stop your holiday break and head back to school for the UTSA men's basketball game at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 20. The Roadrunners (5-2) open their Southland Conference season in the Convocation Center against Lamar (3-4). UTSA is in action again Saturday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. against Sam Houston State.
So far in the pre-conference season, UTSA has won tournaments at Florida International and Southwest Missouri State. Senior center McEverett Powers was named the Most Valuable Player in both tournaments.
Senior guard Devin Brown needs only 135 points to pass Derrick Gervin (1982-85) as UTSA's all-time leading scorer. Brown leads the Southland Conference in scoring with a 21.1 per game average.
Even though it's an early-season game, Saturday's match-up with Sam Houston is a big one. Already this season the Bearkats have knocked off Texas Tech (69-65) and Nebraska (74-70).
