Upgraded Internet Browser Can Solve Printing Woes

Are you having trouble printing articles from your Internet browser? Are the pictures coming out, but the text is in a narrow ribbon down the left margin? You’re afraid no one will believe you if you say, "It’s not me, it’s the software." But this time it’s true.

According to the Internet Development office, Netscape Communicator version 4.73 is "buggy." In fact, tests of nine browsers for both Mac and PC platforms, including Internet Explorer, Netscape, Mozilla and Opera, revealed the Netscape 4.73 printing problem. Additionally, Internet Explorer and Netscape 3.X versions and below are not fully supported.

The solution is to upgrade your Netscape software to version 4.77 or switch to the latest version of Explorer.

If you are having Netscape printing problems, here’s how to determine if you have a "buggy" version -- If you have a Mac, open Netscape, pull down the "Apple" menu and select "About Communicator." If you have a PC, open Netscape, pull down the "Help" menu and select "About Communicator." With either version, if you see "4.73" or a lower number at the top of the screen after "Netscape Communicator" -- you need an upgrade.

To arrange a software upgrade, call the Help Desk at 458-5538. Part of the Information Technology office, Help Desk staff can answer your e-mail and Internet questions. Happy printing!
