UTSA Students Gain Teaching Experience in Mexican Public School

Five UTSA students participated in a recent conference in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, hosted by the Benemerita Escuela Normal de Coahuila. The six-day conference offered workshops addressing the educational, cultural and political issues currently facing Mexico.

The students also learned firsthand about the nation's educational system through field work and by teaching a lesson in a Mexican public school classroom at Escuela Primaria Constituyentes de 1917.

Project Alianza, a grant administered by UTSA's Bicultural Bilingual Studies program, sponsored the students and a program coordinator for the conference. The student participants were Maria Oliva, Julissa Perez, Cynthia Alcorta, Rose Mary Leiva and Elena Carreon.
