Tri-Campus community invited to Friday news conference
(April 4, 2002)--Members of the Tri-Campus community are invited to a news conference Friday morning, April 5, at the Downtown Campus in the Durango Building Southwest Room to hear details about a major gift from NASA to UTSA, benefiting Proyecto Access.
An informal reception begins at 9:15 a.m. and the formal program at 9:30 a.m.
Proyecto Access is the national replication of the San Antonio Prefreshman Engineering Program (PREP), pioneered at the UTSA in 1979 by Mathematics Professor Manuel Berriozabal.
PREP exposes underserved 6th through 11th grade students to mathematics, science and engineering concepts in a higher- education environment during an eight-week summer session. The high school graduation rate for participants is 99.9 percent, and the college entrance rate, 93 percent.
