UTSA mechanical engineering program receives national award

(April 26, 2002)--For the second time in six years, the University of Texas at San Antonio's mechanical engineering program has received the Industrial Award from the national chapter of the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME).

UTSA was nominated for its involvement with the San Antonio Seniors Section of ASME which lists over 400 professional engineers, faculty and students in its membership.

This year, the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Biomechanics has hosted ASME Executive Committee meetings, distinguished lecturers, student leadership events and fund-raisers for engineering scholarships.

"UTSA continues to be one of the biggest contributors to our success and we look forward to a continuing relationship with the university,” said Armando Carmona, chairman of the San Antonio section of ASME.

This is the first year the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Biomechanics has received the award under the College of Engineering. In 1996, the mechanical engineering program was under the Division of Engineering before an academic restructuring increased the number of colleges from four to six.
