Institute of Texan Cultures photo exhibit celebrates human spirit
(April 16, 2002)--The Institute of Texan Cultures (ITC) presents "People's Lives: A Celebration of the Human Spirit," a photographic exhibit seen through the eyes of award-winning Abilene photographer Bill Wright, through June 23 in the ITC Photo Gallery.
Organized by the Texas Council for the Humanities Resource Center, the exhibit features selected black-and-white images selected from 25 years of the photographer's work.
For nearly half a century, Bill Wright has traveled around the world with his cameras, observing and photographing people in places ranging from Nepal to Australia to Palestine to Texas. The faces in the photographs express a range of human emotions and the ability to thrive, even in the harshest circumstances. Each portrait reveals Wright's fascination with people and the lives they lead, and seems to ask viewers to share his interest.
ITC, one of the three campuses of the University of Texas at San Antonio, is an educational center concerned with the history and diverse cultures of Texas. Open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, the ITC is located in downtown San Antonio.
Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children (3-12), $3 for seniors (65+) and military (with I.D.), and free to UTSA staff and students, and children 2 and under.
