Local
company donates to UTSA College of Engineering
(April 17, 2002)The University of Texas at San Antonio College of Engineering
received a $22,000 gift from C2M, a local general
contracting company, to assist in the purchase of new laboratory equipment.
The equipment will be used in the senior design laboratory testing general
relativity.
"Our ability to provide the next generation of engineers is directly
dependent upon companies and individuals supporting the efforts at UTSA. We
are grateful to Joe Castillo and C2M for this unselfish
act of generosity," said Zorica Pantic-Tanner, dean of the College
of Engineering.
"We are very proud to be able to support the College of Engineering at
UTSA," said Joe L. Castillo, president of C2M
Inc. "Our ability to grow and thrive in South Texas will be in direct
proportion to our ability to educate the next generation of engineers."
With enrollment of over 1,000, College of Engineering offers undergraduate
and graduate degrees in civil engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical
engineering.
The first doctorate degree in electrical engineering will be offered fall 2002. Two doctoral degree programs in environmental science and engineering and biomedical engineering are under development and will be presented for approval to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board later this year.
