Graduate fellowships available in natural resource management
(April 12, 2002)--The University of Texas at San Antonio has received a grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to establish graduate fellowships for students majoring in disciplines that will prepare them for careers in or related to the management and conservation of our nation's public lands and natural resources.
A collaborative effort of the UTSA Hispanic Research Center, the USDA and Texas A&M University, the Hispanic Leadership Program in Agriculture and Natural Resources is intended to promote professional development, enhance research and to advance policy issues in agriculture and natural resources relevant to Hispanics.
Three-year doctoral-level fellowships of $30,000 per year and two-year master's-level fellowships of $25,000 per year are available. Fields of study will include agriculture; natural resources; related disciplines such as public policy, public administration, sociology, economics, environmental sciences and medicine; and studies relevant to Hispanic Americans.
Fellowships are available only to U.S. citizens and require full-time study at either UTSA or Texas A&M during the academic year, as well as participation in summer internships and professional-improvement events.
The deadline for applications is May 3. Download an application form at the HRC Web site.
