Fiesta Week causes downtown commuting delays
(April 12, 2002)--Along with cascarones and fajitas, Fiesta also means more vehicles and more pedestrians in the downtown area. Public parking goes quickly, and the added traffic will likely cause delays for all commuters.
During Fiesta, UTSA students, faculty and staff with valid UTSA parking permits will be allowed to park in UTSA's city parking lots (city lots under I-10/35 expressway south of Durango Boulevard) without charge. UTSA's agreement with the city provides parking with a UTSA permit for the benefit of the Downtown Campus. UTSA parking permit holders are discouraged from using UTSA parking for downtown Fiesta events.
Also, if you will be parking in the city lot, make certain that you have your UTSA parking permit properly displayed, with the number facing forward so that it can be seen by parking attendants. Otherwise, you may be subject to paying $4 to park during Fiesta.
Please be aware that paid public parking is allowed in the city lots, and that parking congestion and delays will occur during Fiesta. While the UTSA Shuttle will operate during normal hours for the convenience of the UTSA community, shuttle riders are reminded to anticipate the probability of delays and to plan accordingly by allowing extra commuting time.
Only UTSA parking-permit holders and official visitors are permitted to park
in UTSA's Durango Loop lot or the campus parking garage. During Fiesta, access
to this lot and to the garage will be monitored by university police.
