'Fiesta Under the Stars' offers an evening of Gershwin music
(April 16, 2002)--The University of Texas at San Antonio Department of Music and the San Antonio Fiesta Commission will present "Fiesta Under the Stars: An Evening with Gershwin" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at Convocation Center on the 1604 Campus.
Each year students, faculty and departmental ensembles present a musical extravaganza featuring the music of a specific composer or genre. The featured composer for 2002 is George Gershwin. "Fiesta Under the Stars" previously featured the music of Bernstein, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Lennon and McCartney, Andrew Lloyd Weber and Cole Porter, as well as the music of Broadway and Hollywood.
This year's program will include performances of "Rhapsody in Blue," "An American in Paris," selections from "Porgy and Bess," and other Gershwin favorites such as "Strike Up the Band," "Our Love is Here to Stay," "Bidi'n' My Time," "S' Wonderful," "Fascinating Rhythm," and "I Got Rhythm." The program will also include tributes to America with "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and a medley of patriotic songs.
"Fiesta Under the Stars" began in the late 1980s and has become a favorite among the many events of Fiesta San Antonio Fiesta as a perfect place to find good food and music for family and friends.
An optional dinner is available preceding the performance beginning at $20 per person. General admission (dinner not included) is $8 at the door.
