Housing
survey results to be presented next week
(April 11, 2002)--The final report on a UTSA student housing survey will be presented next week, but the initial reaction from UTSA officials is that they are pleased with the comments from 548 students who participated in the survey.
The online survey was the final phase in a three-part study that included off-campus market analysis and student focus groups. Students linked to the online survey from several of UTSA's Web pages including Roadrunner Shortcuts and UTSA Today. The survey was accessible online for 11 days.
UTSA Director of Business Operations Powell Trotti said consulting firm Anderson Strickler, working with UTSA, conducted a market analysis and the student survey on campus housing. Student participation was anonymous and the information provided was used in group form only.
"The information helped us determine what kind of units, amenities and pricing structures the students were interested in," said Trotti.
Students also registered for a drawing in which Anderson Strickler awarded $100 to three randomly selected students who completed the survey. The winners were Lorraine Vasquez, Megan Mendez and Tracie Holmes.
Student housing facilities are also being reviewed by UT System officials and an ad-hoc committee at UTSA led by Rosalie Ambrosino, vice president for student affairs.
The University of Texas System Board of Regents recently approved a $12 million, 500-bed, 515,000 square feet housing complex for the UTSA campus, which would be the first in a four-phase project to double the school's student housing capacity.
The complex will be built on the 1604 Campus near Chisholm Hall, which has 500 beds and is the only residence hall on campus. About 1,500 students reside in University Oaks Apartments, an on-campus complex.
