Local theater producer forms playwrights group
(April 3, 2002)--The creation of SAT Playwrights was recently announced by Steven Stoli of The Steven Stoli Entertainment Group. Stoli created the group when he realized there were few new plays being produced in the San Antonio area.
"I attribute this to the absence of an organized group to provide support for playwrights in the development of their craft, and to help provide opportunities for production of their plays," Stoli said.
The mission of the new group is to support playwrights at all stages of the writing process by creating a place where they can receive encouragement for script development, see the plays performed in a laboratory setting before public performance and network to learn about local and national opportunities for production of the plays.
Local writer, director and teacher Modrea Mitchell-Reichert, artistic director for the group, will provide members with resources to facilitate the writing process, including a bi-weekly electronic newsletter. Mitchell-Reichert will also direct monthly readings of works-in-progress for the playwrights utilizing local actors.
The Steven Stoli Playhouse will provide its facility and library for use by SAT Playwrights members.
