Specialized Neuroscience Research Programs seeks student applications

(April 1, 2002)-- The Summer Research Fellowship Program sponsored by Specialized Neuroscience Research Programs (SNRP) at the University of Texas at San Antonio is seeking applications from undergraduate and master's degree students.

Funded by a National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke grant awarded to UTSA, the SNRP summer fellowship program allows a total of 16 students to work with neuroscientists for two consecutive summers investigating how the brain functions.

The goal of the Summer Research Fellowship Program is to increase the research and mentoring opportunities for students at minority institutions in South Texas. Students will have the opportunity to learn the latest neurobiological techniques by using state-of-the art equipment.

Summer Fellows will join the active research projects of one of the 16 participating laboratories at UTSA; University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio; Marine Biological Laboratories, Woods Hole, Mass; Dartmouth College, Lebanon, N.H.; or Rockefeller University, New York, N.Y.

Travel and a $3,000 stipend will be provided for Fellows during the ten-week program. Each Fellow will present his or her research findings in a symposium held at UTSA at the conclusion of the program.

The completed application, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation are due April 7, 2002.
