Students have more opportunities to take TASP test

(April 24, 2002)--UTSA students who missed the April test date for the required TASP test will have two opportunities in May to take the state-required Quick TASP test.

The Texas State Education Code requires that all students who entered public institutions in the fall of 1989 or after take the the TASP (Texas Academic Skills Program) examination. TASP assesses reading, writing and mathematics skills. Entering students must have taken the TASP test or an approved TASP alternative before they can register for classes, unless the student is exempt.

Quick TASP is an alternative program through which students can take the TASP exam. Quick TASP  dates are set by the UTSA Office of Testing Services and are offered to UTSA students on dates that do not usually correspond to the statewide TASP test dates.

Students who plan to take the Quick TASP must register and pay for the test at least one week before the test date. There is no same-day registration. Additionally, those registering must bring payment in the form of two checks or money orders, one for $15 made out to "UTSA," and a second for $29 made out to "NES." Students must bring student ID when registering and on the test day.

At the Downtown Campus the testing date is Friday, May 10. For test times and more information, call Testing Services at (210) 458-2941. The office is in Buena Vista Street Building Room 1.302.

At the 1604 Campus the test will be Monday, May 13. For test times and more information, call (210) 458-4125. The office is located at Business Services Annex Room 1.01.12 on West Campus off Margaret Tobin Ave.

Visit the Testing Services Web site for maps and test information.
