UTSA residence hall repairs delay move-ins until Aug. 24
(Aug. 15, 2002)--Century Campus Housing Management, the Houston-based firm that oversees all student housing for UTSA, has announced that repairs for rain-related damage to the Chisholm Residence Hall at UTSA's 1604 Campus will delay student move-ins at the facility for the fall semester. Century Housing is pushing back the originally scheduled move-in date of Aug. 22 to Aug. 24.
Century Housing officials say work is progressing on refurbishing 138 of the facility's 262 rooms. Wallboard and carpeting are now being replaced. Once work is complete, inspectors for Century Housing and university-contracted independent experts will thoroughly examine the structure to assure all rooms are ready for occupancy.
Century Housing has arranged for temporary, off-campus housing--the cost of which would be paid by Century--in the event some Chisholm rooms are not ready for occupancy on Aug. 24. If it becomes necessary to temporarily house some students at area hotels, Century officials say the students would be housed in a block of rooms with their assigned roommates and resident advisers, just as if they were living in the campus residence hall. Shuttle service would be provided to transport students to and from the campus.
Parents of students originally scheduled to move into Chisholm Hall on Aug. 22 are being advised of the delayed opening via letter from Century Housing. According to Century officials, students should report to the Chisholm Hall Activity Center for move-in from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Aug. 24 or from noon-4 p.m. Aug. 25.
Students will receive move-in packets and room assignments. Should any rooms not be ready, these students would be assisted by Century Housing in moving into alternate lodging. Any cost for alternate lodging would be paid by Century.
Parents or students with questions are asked to call Century Campus Housing
