UT System Employee Advisory Council elects officers

(Aug. 15, 2002)--Members of the Employee Advisory Council of the University of Texas System have elected officers for the 2002-03 fiscal year. Walter Tenery, electrician leader at UT Arlington, is the chair; and Shirley Zwinggi, administrative manager at UT Southwestern Medical Center is vice chair. Two UTSA employees are included in the new slate of officers and committee chairs.

"For FY 2003, the Employee Advisory Council will be focused on finalizing research in preparation to make recommendations for the Board of Regents. These recommendations will be in reference to compensation best practices and tuition reimbursement/fee waivers. The EAC will then proceed to identify the next issues of concern for the employees of the UT System," Tenery said.

Other officers are Sherill Boline, administrative coordinator at the UT System, historian; and Lorraine Etkin, employee health department administrator at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, secretary.

Committee chairs are Teri Reynolds, administrative assistant II at UT San Antonio, benefits committee; Paula Berkley, administrative secretary III at UT Pan American, compensation committee; John Poindexter, assistant director of multimedia imaging at UT San Antonio, communication committee; and Bob Vasquez, director of financial aid at UT Permian Basin, policy committee.

The 32-member Employee Advisory Council includes two representatives and an alternate from each component institution of the System as well as the System administration. The council was authorized by the Board of Regents in 2000 to provide a vehicle for communication and to facilitate the flow of ideas and information between employees, the Board of Regents and executive officers of the System.

The council holds two-day meetings in Austin in March, July and October of each year, and meets with the Board of Regents each February. Dan Stewart, executive director of employment and benefits administration, is the System's staff liaison for the council.
