UTSA works overtime to maximize student parking

(Aug. 21, 2002)--To minimize traffic congestion at UTSA during the initial days of the fall semester which begins Monday, Aug. 26, officials at the university have assigned 10 police officers to direct traffic and leased additional parking for students, faculty and staff at Fiesta Texas, which is directly north of the UTSA 1604 Campus.

A shuttle service will provide transportation to and from parking areas at Fiesta Texas and the 1604 Campus from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Mon.-Fri. Electronic signs at the north entrances of the campus will direct traffic to the additional parking.

"UTSA's fall enrollment--potentially a record number of students at the university’s campuses--will be served by a record number of parking spaces at both the Downtown and 1604 Campuses as a result of parking construction this summer, but we will take extra measures to minimize traffic congestion for our students," said Rosalie Ambrosino, vice president for student affairs.

Two major building construction projects currently are underway at the 1604 Campus, and both projects require occasional adjustments to traffic flow. Despite student parking being eliminated in Lot 4, northeast of the Business Building, 250 more permit spaces will be available for student use at the 1604 Campus than were available last spring, in addition to 32 additional metered spaces. The Downtown Campus will have available for students approximately 50 more spaces than last year.

For the latest information on available parking at UTSA and road closures due to construction, students, faculty and staff are encouraged to call the university's weather line at (210) 458-SNOW (458-7669).
