Week of Welcome closes with MTV cast and Howdy Rowdy bash

(Aug. 29, 2002)--UTSA Week of Welcome events concluded on Thursday with MTV "Real World" cast members at the Convocation Center and the Howdy Rowdy Bash dance party in the Physical Education Building on the 1604 Campus. At the Downtown Campus the day included a tailgate party with five cent drinks and hot dogs. There were information tables and prize drawings at both campuses.

Sponsored by CAB and the Learning Communities program, the "Real World" group discussed diversity and relationships, and answered questions about themselves and the show.

The first UTSA Fall Convocation on Thursday brought students, faculty and staff to the Convocation Center on the 1604 Campus to start off the new school year with best wishes and encouragement. UTSA community members also gathered at the Downtown Campus to watch a simulcast of the ceremony in the Distance Learning lab.

Faculty and staff wearing academic regalia and UTSA orange and blue entered in a procession to open the ceremony. Provost Guy Bailey introduced addresses by President Ricardo Romo, Student Government Association President Melissa Killen, UTSA Alumni Association President R. Rene Escobedo, and Vice President for Student Affairs Rosalie Ambrosino. The event closed with singing of the UTSA alma mater, "Hail UTSA."

Show your Roadrunner Spirit by wearing an Orange Crush T-shirt. The T-shirts are available for $8 at the 1604 Campus and Downtown Campus bookstores.
